DRUM ROLL...INTRODUCING OUR NEW RESIDENT BRIDE TO BE....

So our mystery woman can finally reveal herself, super happy to have this fab lady on board!  With out further ado, I'll hand you over to the gorgeous Sara aka Wedding Sparrow, our new resident bride-to-be....

Hello Peonies & Pearls readers, my name is Sara and I’m a wedding-a-holic. No, seriously. I’m not content with just organising my own but I also blog about the experience as well as all sorts of other wedding related prettiness and now I’ve taken up position as a resident bride-to-be here on Peonies & Pearls.

Some of you may know me as Wedding Sparrow as I have blogged under that pseudonym previously. The truth is I wanted to keep it anonymous… until now. I often read wedding blogs and all about the real brides on there and love it. Love hearing about their problems and issues and what they would change or do again if given the chance. So, I’m going to try my best to be honest and upfront about how the whole process is going (with pictures to boot!).

I’m in my late 20s (later than I’d like) and I am engaged to the man of my dreams (henceforth known as Mr Sparrow). We have been together for almost 8 years now and have been engaged for the last two and a half (we needed that long just to save!). The big day itself is Saturday 26th May 2012 so feel free to mark it on your calendar and help me count down the days…

MEET THE SPARROW…

My idea of my wedding sprung thoughts of a far away destination with minimal guests and a quiet party afterwards. I was certainly a part of the ‘How much did they spend on that wedding?!?’ club… Cue 2 years later and I am obsessed with all things wedding-related and creating our ‘perfect day’. I daydream at my ‘day job’ and spend my hours waiting to catch up on other blogs, wedding magazines and other inspirational websites. I am the first to admit that I have never been the type to imagine my wedding when growing up (I can hear the gasps from here), but since I got engaged I have been overcome by the urge to create an impossibly perfect and stylish wedding day and been swept along by the wedding hysteria.

You can see more about how we met here but let’s just get to the juicy bits hey??

THE ENGAGEMENT…

The part that most people want to know the nitty gritty of. Never mind the previous 8 years of bickering, arguing and disagreements over who used the last of the loo roll and not replaced it. Never mind that you might not even be suited to each other because one likes Rock music and the other likes RnB. Everyone wants to know… how did he do it?

I must give some previous history here to do it justice so here goes… We were young when we met so getting married never really crossed our minds. We were footloose and fancy free and enjoying every minute of it! First came the house – a cosy cottage in the countryside. Before you know it 5 years have gone by and great-aunt Maud and the rest of the world are asking ‘Why aren’t you married yet?’. Truth is I didn’t have an answer. Then comes the paranoia… ‘Why aren’t I married??’

Any subtle ways of implying marriage to the boy were out the window and downright demanding was in. I even managed to rope in the future in-laws into the project. His mum would side with me when the topic was brought up – cue much Kevin the Teenager behaviour from the boy. Then his sister would bring it up too (suspicions of said sister just wanting to be chief bridesmaid were later confirmed). Before long, the harassed boy would just nod and agree whenever the ‘W’ word was brought up. Soon enough, the idea of ever being married just faded into the background… As far as marriage was concerned, it would never be perfect, so why bother?

CHRISTMAS DAY 2009…

Well, it started on Christmas Eve really. See, in our house, everything gets left to the last minute ensuing panic and arguments. The wrapping of the presents therefore naturally gets left until the last possible day. When I was asked to vacate the living room to leave him to wrap my presents, I thought nothing of it. Whilst I was tidying up in the bedroom, I stumbled across a receipt (okay, okay, it was in his pocket!! I won’t go into how I have to check all of his pockets before I put things in the wash in case tissue ends up all over my new top…). Let me make this clear before I am branded a ‘snooper’… it was a WHSmith receipt. Nothing out of the ordinary at all. Until I noticed it had ‘Fianc√© Christmas Card’ written on the item description. Gulp. What to do? Run downstairs in a fit of happiness declaring my acceptance? Or act completely unawares until the moment presented itself (if it ever did)? I chose the latter…

Going to sleep that night took a herculean effort on my part, let me tell you. I kept watching to see if he had trouble sleeping too. Maybe he had something on his mind?? Apparently not. Not long after finally drifting off, I was awoken to the sound of the boy getting up out of bed and going for his ‘grandad wee’ (you know, where they can’t go through the night without having to empty their bladder). Then he creeps back in with a little something in a jewellers bag. Now, this was all circumstantial at this point and my imagination was running wild with all the possibilities considering I was viewing this with one eye squinting and the other eye shut pretending to be asleep…

He placed the bag on my bedside table along with a card and went back to sleep. Hmm…. If falling asleep before took herculean effort, I deserved an Olympic medal made of solid gold to fall back asleep this time! See, I wanted him to have his moment and let him say what he wanted to say without the pressure of a screaming banshee jumping up and down shouting ‘YES, YES, YES!’ before he’d even asked. So when I woke up and ‘discovered’ the present that Father Christmas had left me, it went without a hitch. There were tears, hugs and the obligatory Facebook status changing. Perfect.

So, there we have it. That’s me. I’m looking forward to creating this personal account of the wedding planning and look forward to hearing about yours. A huge thanks to Adelle for inviting me to join the Peonies & Pearls team temporarily!

Until next time…

Wedding Sparrow (Sara)
